NAP Citation Audit for Local SEO Agencies — SoloCMO
Local SEO 07 · NAP consistency

Siri, Alexa and eight car brands are quoting your client.

Roughly forty-six directories carry a local business's name, address and phone — general sites, the data aggregators behind them, in-dash navigation, and voice assistants. This audits every one and tells you which are wrong, which are missing, and which to fix first.

Anonymize the client name, address and phone — this screen is nothing but NAP data.

The problem

Nothing tells you when a citation goes bad.

A phone number changes. A suite number gets dropped. Somebody creates a second Facebook page. None of it produces an alert, a ranking drop you can trace, or a single line in any report — the damage is a customer who couldn't reach the business and never mentioned it.

Checking properly means running the same search across forty-odd directories and comparing every field by hand. It takes an afternoon per client, it has to be redone every quarter, and at fifteen clients it has simply never happened.

Four surfaces

Directories are the half everybody thinks about.

The business data behind a dashboard nav system, a voice assistant or a mapping app comes from the same feeds as the directory listings — and those are the ones nobody has ever opened to check.

The sites a customer might actually land on, and where duplicate listings quietly accumulate.

Aggregator fed

The source feeds

Nobody visits these. Dozens of downstream listings are built from them, which makes them the highest-leverage fix on the list.

Mobile nav

In the dashboard

Built-in navigation quotes this data to a driver who is, at that moment, trying to get to the business.

Read aloud

An assistant reads the number out. If it's wrong there, the customer dials a wrong number and blames the business.

The audit

Six numbers, and it won't soften any of them.

Total checked, how many are accurate, how many are inconsistent, how many are missing entirely, how many are duplicates, and a health score. A score of zero is a real result the tool will show you rather than round up.

A real audit. Three of thirty-eight directories have any listing at all, and all three are wrong.

One digit in the area code. Every call from that listing goes to a stranger, and nothing anywhere reports it.

Order matters more than effort

Three fixes that propagate, and thirty-five that don't.

A handful of data aggregators feed most of the downstream listings, mapping platforms and voice assistants. Correcting the business at those few sources cascades outward on its own — which is why a good fix list doesn't start with the directory you've heard of.

3aggregators

Fix these before anything else

Data Axle, Neustar Localeze and Foursquare feed a long tail of directories, map apps and voice platforms. Submitting accurate data there corrects listings that currently show as missing without visiting any of them — and it's the one part of citation work with genuine leverage.

Prioritized

A numbered fix list

Every item naming the specific directory, the exact wrong value, and what it should say — in the order that produces the most correction for the least work.

Client-ready

A summary in plain language

A written explanation of the state of the citation profile and what it's likely costing, in terms an owner can follow without knowing what NAP stands for.

Re-runnable

Quarterly, not once

Citation data decays quietly. The audit keeps its last completed date on screen, so you always know how stale the picture is before you trust it.

Every module is on every plan. Plans differ only in how many clients you run.

Shared context

Where it fits.

Citation consistency is one of the trust signals the rank diagnosis weighs, and it's the one most likely to be quietly broken on a client you inherited from another agency.

Why do in-car navigation systems matter?
Because the business data in a dashboard nav system comes from the same feeds as everything else, and it's the one place nobody ever checks. If the phone number is wrong there, the customer who tried to call from their car simply doesn't arrive, and nothing in any report will ever tell you why.
What is the aggregator cascade?
A handful of data aggregators feed dozens of downstream directories, mapping platforms and voice assistants. Correcting the business at those few sources propagates outward, which is why the fix list puts them near the top even though they're not the sites anyone actually visits.
Does it fix the listings for me?
It finds the problems, shows exactly what each directory has against what it should have, and produces a prioritized fix list naming the specific wrong values. Submitting corrections is done per directory, which is why the ordering matters so much — a few of these fixes cascade and most don't.
What counts as a duplicate?
More than one entry for the same business on the same directory, usually created accidentally over the years. They split trust signals and send customers to a version of the listing nobody maintains — and they're often where the outdated phone number is still living.
How often should I re-run it?
Once a quarter is usually enough. Citation data decays quietly rather than suddenly, and the audit keeps the last completed date on screen so you can see how stale the picture is before you trust it.
